• Château de Vue in French roughly translates to “Castle with a View”. Why French? Because it just sounded cooler than “Castle with a View”. The architecture of the house also has many French Country elements.

• It took 18 Months to complete the Château. 6 of those months were just getting to the build site. It was officially finished in July of 2008 but the complete furnishing and final punch list took until late December 2008.

• The owners designed the Château from scratch looking at plans they had liked. During the framing they added the third floor (which was to be an open attic) and the turret (which was to be a peak) as well as the loft at the top of the front stairs.

• There are over 120 tons of rock and brick on the façade of the Château. There are roughly 5,000 2x pine studs in the framing. It took 11 men (owner included) to set the 10-foot sold iron entry doors.

• There are over 200 tons of gravel and rock on the driveway to the Château (which is roughly 1/3 mile long). The driveway washed out twice and had to be completely rebuilt during the construction. Don’t worry, it won’t wash out again!

• The Château’s well is 985 feet deep and requires a commercial pump to maintain a strong water flow. There are also two commercial tank-less water heaters to keep that water warm since it pulls from the ground all year long at 45 degrees.

• The Château sits on just under 60 acres of mountainous land; however, there are an additional 260 undeveloped acres that border the property. We first set foot on the land in September of 2006 and immediately fell in love with it.

• The owners were married in the Château during the framing and drywall on October 27^th, 2007. The initial plan was to have the Château finished for the wedding but that just didn’t come close to happening. Being the go-with-the-flow type people we are, we put on some nice clothes and got hitched anyway!

• The star on the driveway is actually a compass. The longest point closest to the front doors is due North. If you are an astronomer, it is a great way to find the North Star. At night you can see the Milky Way Galaxy’s event horizon from the turret. It runs in a straight line almost directly across the center of the sky.

• When you are standing on the Turret you are almost exactly 2900 feet above sea level. Bull Mountain is the furthest mountain you can see and is 17 Miles away (if you are standing with your back to the door it is at about 2:00). The white line across its face is actually the Blue Ridge Parkway. Where it seems to disappear are two tunnels you pass through near the Ranger Station.
